Alice in Wonderland Costume Ideas?
I'm playing Alice in a local production. The costumes are somewhat minimal. The birds, animals, and other small parts are impressionistic costumes. The Mad Hatter, March Hare, King, Queen, and Knave of Hearts, Duchess, etc., are full costumes; gowns, crowns and whatever. The director is completely open to anything I bring. She says to do anything I want. She does want the traditional blue in the costume.
Any ideas? I don't know if I want the completely traditional 1800's dress and stockings. Any help would be appreciated. =)

Get the blue dress and a pinafore at least. A pinafore is that apron-like garment worn over the dress. Make sure it has pockets--or at least make sure your dress has pockets because Alice is constantly putting things into her pockets.
I'm posting some pictures to give you an idea of what you should aim for. Pinafores are fairly easy to sew in case you don't find what you want in a way of a ready-made costume (if you don't sew, you might find some crafty friend to help you providing you buy the raw materials like fabric and thread).
It won't kill you to wear a pair of white pantyhose and Mary Janes either (or if you have little lace-up ankle boots that would work too).
