Buying diamond in Alaska?

Going to an Alaskan cruise at the end of the month. Heard a lot about Alaskan diamonds. Worth buying? if so, any recommendations?

Chances are they are just regular diamonds. Alaska is known for gold, not diamonds. You may be thinking of some of the specialty diamonds out of Canada that are also sold in Alaska such as the Polar Bear diamond. We do have a black stone called hematite that is very pretty as well as jade and rubies.

Diamonds are mined in many parts of the US, including Alaska. However, it is always a bad idea to buy any kind of expensive jewelry while on vacation, especially at places where cruise ships stop. If you want to buy a diamond from a particular part of the world such as Alaska, you don't need to go there to buy it. In fact, it is always a bad idea to buy diamonds anywhere near where they were mined. For example, Australian diamonds should never be purchased in Australia since that's the most expensive place on earth to buy them.
