Poll: Why do people have that swirl pattern on the back of their heads?

It's cute, but why do we have them?

    I have no idea, but my nephew has it. It's oddly adorable.

    So the hair can lay down properly on the head. Otherwise the hair would be one big poofy stack of hair that looked really bad, and then girls would have to spend 21 hours getting ready instead of just 3...ha ha

    It is genetic, how our hair grows. I have heard that girls' swirls usually go one way, and boys' go the opposite direction. Girls have them too but it is easier to see on guys because of their shorter hair. :)

    It creates a false cloaking device to help you duck under a predators mouth coming at your head...if you have uncut hair that is.
