Why didn't God order the Israelites to spare and raise the children/infants of Amalek themselves?

Rather than kill them

1 Samuel 15:3 Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

because back then the Israelites needed to justify their genocide.

Now days they do it in front of the cameras.

Is it any wonder that Jesus committed state assisted suicide to get away form them?

"God mentioned sheep and oxen, but not parrots. What is the significance in this omission? "

The thing people miss when they read that story unthinkingly is that the attack was on one single city of Amalek

(you will find Amalekites coming up regularly after this raid - including an Amaleki soldier in Saul's own army).

Looking at it in this manner --

The attack Saul carried out in this story had the same rationalle as the British firebombing of Drezden and the American atomic bombing of HIroshima and Nagasaki.

Amalek had been at that point regularly attacking Israel for several hundred years.

The military theory behind the attack was a single massive punitive action in order to deter furher Amalek attacks.

If they took cattle, booty, and or human captives, then the Amalek would have dismissed the matter as just a massive cattle raid.

The point was to say "we want nothing from you -- we just want this to stop"

Because the curses of the fathers go down through the children. In this case the nation was so pagan and so evil that even the children were cursed and could not be set free from those curses unless they cam ego love and obey the God of the bible. That malignant type cancer (curse) would spread throughout the nations and destroy millions of innocent people. One has to look at the big picture to properly understand.

For example: look at how the ****'s have contaminated all humankind now. That has happened because they were not put out of the camp where they belong. Now the whole world has spiritual AIDS and it is spreading more and more every day. It is hurting even the good people on earth because it was not dealt with properly. Now all suffer because of something that should have been dealt with many years ago.

These people were so Sinful that they would Sacrifice their Children alive to a Pagan God. In a Fire!

God did not want His people to be influenced in any way by foreigners. They were even not suppose to inter marry with any of them. But they did. For Israel to keep anything that was forbidden, would be a SIN!

The command to worship one God in one way only, to the exclusion of all others, seems originally to have been a way of uniting a people within their social structure and engendering enmity against other peoples who might compete for, or already possess, desired land and resources, and ‘justification’ for their genocide related in several places in the Bible such as Numbers 31:17-18 and your quote.

In the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings, genocide and regicide are shown as commands from God, who is clearly a god of war in those books. The Bible contains massive violence, pornography (Such as Ezekiel 23:19-20), inequality of gender, genocide and mass murder, and of course horror stories like the lake of fire, all condoned as being the will of God.

That's just one of the many atrocities commanded by the Old Testament version of their god that they have to take on faith that their god has a holy reason for doing so. They don't look at those accounts too closely.

EDIT NOTE: @ MOUNTAIN DELIVERED GOODS. "Baby snakes are still snakes." If an infant is going to turn out like the parents then all adopted babies would take on the traits of their biological parents only and nothing from their adopted parents. You mistake people for animals.

Because their "lord" was most likely a blood thirsty power hungry man that they obeyed and worshiped--not a magic man in the sky. They may have believed in gods, but it was their rulers that made up the words of their gods People were poor and extremely ignorant then, and did what their master "lord" told them to do.

God didn't want them to be spared. I think it was God's intention to replace Saul anyway. Also I think that God shows himself often that he isn't all accepting. He said he loves those who trust in Him, and that's it. There aren't any other people who he wants other than those who trust him. He can eliminated entire populations of people because he knows there is no good in them (or us), he inspires the good in us. After this is all over, there wont be any good in those who didn't come to Christ.
