Girls are spiraling downwards in U.S. education?

A feminist recently made this claim.

Everything I've seen is that girls have been doing exceptionally well, for decades steadily doing better and better than boys in K-12, with far fewer boys going onto college. Everything I've seen indicates that ever since girls started entering education they have been spiraling upwards, not downwards.

Can anyone show any legitimate study that girls now or anytime in the recent past were ever spiraling downward in education?

What does it say that feminists claim girls are spiraling downward, when everything written indicates the exact opposite has been happening?

Update:

Dark Eyes, the quote from the article says:

"If the girls polled were caught in "an accelerating downward spiral," they were unaware of it. " -

The point is feminist Carol Gilligan was trying to claim girls were spiraling downwards, but nothing not even the views of girls themselves supported her contention. Again, all objective studies have showed that girls have been doing better and better not spiraling downwards.

Update 2:

The article is stating that the claim of girls spiraling downwards is not true. That you can't see this is telling.

Update 3:

Great point Elana. Knocking boys down creates an illusion girls are doing much better, but once one looks outside the U.S. system, one see a different story.

That was the sort of alarmism we heard frequently a few decades ago. Obviously things turned out to be quite different.

I think what we have here is one feminist's failure at reading comprehension and critical thinking.

In the US, girls *ARE* spiraling downward in education, compared to the rest of the world.

Only with respect to boys, in the US are girls doing better.

Which is to say, boys, in the US are spiraling down faster.

    All things are relative.

This is what removing competition from Western (in particular, American) school systems has done.

Of course this is not true at all. It's just part of Feminist strategy. When it's time for handouts, play the victim card. If it's time to recruit young girls into the dogma, play the supremacist card.

Feminism. The only ideology where you can be both superior AND a victim of all humanity at the same time.
