Are people who display the confederate flag unpatriotic?

The battle flag of the Confederate States of America, a now defeated and no longer in existent former enemy of the United States, represents anti-Americanism at its most repugnant. Are these people traitors and should they be tried and prosecuted?

So are those that display the Marine, Army, Navy or Air force flag unpatriotic? Or those that display the POW flag? The Confederate Flag is an important Symbolic symbol of this country. It symbolizes that American pride and ability to stand up for what it believes. The thing is as long as the flag is not flown above the American flag no disrespect is being shown.

Add: Philip why do some blacks down south fly the Confederate flag if it is racist? or is that just your opinion?

In a society of free speech, No. Due to the actions of the flag bearer counts more than his display. If he acts are unpatriotic? Then yes. The flag incidental. Because most of those Confederate flags wavers desire just ONE thing. Not to be so meddled with by the state that they can not excel and achieve a better future. IE: a measure of Liberty. That flag a symbol of being willing to take a stand. In a CLEAN fight. AKA Robert E Lee. Stonewall Jackson, etal. not the KKK.

Now, a person who does wave the rainbow flag or the Obama circular emblem should (but won't be) arrested as barbaric traitors.

Because their actions vandalize/ graffiti/assault Liberty, Equality of Opportunity, and the general welfare of the People. Whether they wave the flags they salute? Or, the US flag they lip service.

Actually, unpatriotic is the least repulsive thing about wearing the confederate flag, not because I think America is such a horrible place but because that was not one of the worst examples of its history and what a collective group of them stood for. There is nothing moral or rational about claiming states rights to enslave and abuse people without intervention regardless whether you think the north was being altruistic or not.

    Not at all.

In fact they may in fact care more about the entire country because of the end result of the War of Northern Aggression, which singled out Southern States for punishment after the war ended and Lincoln was assassinated.

Many Democrats and Black Americans still live in the South.

its not anti American ... the north wasn't the only one to represent what it was to be American during the civil war. We just valued freedom a little less than equality the day they won, and have steadily been giving more of it up ever since.

You could say its equally as much a statement as flag burning or those Mexican kids in CA that hung the Mexican flag over an upside down American one on their school flagpole ... why aren't you on those guys asses?

To be completely honest, the rebel flag represents the ideals that this nation was founded upon and made it so great. You could also call it a lack of nationalism and maybe even fascism. The people are what makes this country great and to suppress their ideas in very un-American. You can run with this and say I am plo-slavery or whatever you want to discredit me, that's what happens to people who believe their state governments can handle their affairs in the US. I don't want Jim Crow Laws, I want freedom, and that freedom includes the right to self-determination.

  • Nope why would they be? Do we question the patriotism of those folks who display the Mexican flag, Irish Flag etc..? Only a complete and total MORON would consider this people traitors and those are the folks we need to deal with.
