I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years and Oakland, like any large metropolitan city in the world, has good parts and bad parts. Generally if you are not living in low-income neighborhoods, Oakland is as safe as any place.

No. "During the first decade of the 21st century Oakland has consistently been listed as one of the most dangerous large cities in the United States."

That is a very general question which can apply to any big city. You have to live in certain areas and then your chances of crime are the same as any big city. San Francisco is a lot safer in the whole city. Oakland has bad parts and acceptable parts.

People who know the subject(rather than the well intentioned but dangerously uninformed) would

tell you: anywhere below Lake Merritt is menacing after dark. want a taste? go take your new

Reeboks and I phone5 on a twilight walk anywhere above International Blvd in the 20's or 30's.

If you survive that, stroll the "shooting gallery" on Seminary Ave.

There are safe, high-income sections, and more dangerous ones. More dangerous than safe.
