Why don't they have the Winter & Summer Olympics simultaneously?

Why not have two host cities - one in the Northern hemisphere, and one in the Southern hemisphere - an have the Winter & Summer Olympics either simultaneously, or back-to-back?

They would be able to make it every 4 years instead of every 2 years, as it was originally intended to be.

They could schedule it such that the it was 2 years removed from the World Cup (so Olympics, wait 2 years, World Cup, wait 2 years, Olympics, and so on).

It is a matter of logistics, having both games at the same time was too expensive and complicated for the IOC. That way, the IOC can focus on one game every two years. And for the World Cup (I assume football), as long as the Summe games are not at the same time, no problem.

They use to but it became too difficult to put on both Olympics in the same year so they split it to the 2 and 2 system we have now.

Massive distraction for one. Two, what if an athlete wants to compete in both? It would cost a fortune for media outlets to attempt to be at both venues.

That would be extremely expensive and not give much time for the host city to build the required facilities.
