What is STEM in education?

I know it stands for science technology engineering and mathematics.

But what is the technology part of it? I heard the US is going to have big demand for STEM careers so they want more immigrants to fill the jobs since only 16% of American senior high school kids say that they want that.

So what is the technology section? Would graphic design on computers be included in that?
