The shroud of Turin, a medieval forgery, fooled a team of 31 influential US scientists in the 1980's. Who forged it and how?

ALL HAIL JESUS: I do read the Bible. The second cloth that is described in the bible is in Ovedio, Spain. My question was who forged the shroud. Who was it? Who? Because he should win a noble prize in all fields of science except carbon dating.

No-one has yet been able to suggest how medieval people could have produced a forged negative image centuries before photography was invented.

STURP was fooled because of this:
"STURP included no experts on medieval art, archaeology or textiles."
And because the one definitive test they might have performed wasn't actually done. Because they weren't permitted to take the kinds of samples that would have allowed them to.
No one knows who and how, but we do know approximately when. And a number of possibilities have been put forward that demonstrate it would have been possible with technology available then.

I think you misunderstood the point. It's not that the Bible mentions a full-body flat shroud and a second cloth of some other kind. It's that the shroud described in the Bible IS NOT A SINGLE FLAT CLOTH. It is a "winding cloth" for the body, and a separate cloth just for the head. Neither of which is consistent with the Shroud of Turin.

The shroud, measuring 14 feet, 4 inches by 3 feet, 7 inches has been Carbon dated in tests by laboratories in Oxford, Zurich and Arizona as dating from between 1260 and 1390. This has not been discredited and stands as true!
Shrouds at the time of Jesus were two or three pieces and no record of a single piece shroud has been found!
The cloth of shrouds of the time were a simple single weave. The Turin shroud is a far more sophisticated double weave not found before the middle ages!
The shroud was easily replicated using materials found to have been used by Leonardo da Vinci who is thought to have been the faker!
As Christianity's most disputed relics, it is locked away at Turin Cathedral in Italy and further tests have been refused. If it was genuine why refuse test that might confirm that?!
The Catholic Church does not claim the shroud is authentic nor that it is a matter of faith, but says it should be a powerful reminder of Christ's passion.
People who claim it is genuine tie it so closely to Christianity that as more and more proof shows it to be a forgery and a hoax that is how Christianity will be seen!

Scripture says there were two cloths. One wrapped around his face and another on his body. Both were neatly folded and left at each end of the slab of rock where Jesus had been.
You know what you should do? You should read your bible.

Stuck in the 80's? You should update your information on it so you're not so far behind because there is recent scientific tests and results released within the past 2 years that make what you think you know irrelevant on the matter.

"fooled a team of 31 influential US scientists".
No it didn't. The Church wouldn't allow Carbon-14 dating on it for fear of it's destruction.

Run my atheist brothers and sisters, he has outsmarted our lies!
Do you also have the splinters of the actual cross? How about Jesus's own foreskin? You must have also seen Noah's very own Ark, too right?Source(s): Your friendly neighborhood atheist, A.

*IF* what you say is true what's the chances of every one of those 'scientists' being fundie xians ? They were USian after all ;)
- Anonymous7 years ago
If that was even remotely true, than wouldn't it also have to have been scientists that proved it to be a forgery?

It's not that difficult. The Narrator did it in Fight Club.
