I want to copy and paste without extra charcters being added, how?

I'm useing Windows 7 operating system. Is there some setting I can use to get it to stop adding extra charcters to my copy and pasteing of text from one applicaiton to another? What I highlight is exactly what I want.

The extra charcters are usually spaces, carriage returns, and double-spaceing when I'm trying to copy a single-spaced set of text.

notepad. paste into notepad - that will remove any formatting... then copy and paste from notepad.
