Is it possible to connect Dreamweaver to a MySQL Local Connection?

Or do I need a database via PhpMyAdmin or XAMPP or WAMPSERVER?

Can I just access the local instance in MySQL from dreamweaver?

    1. Dreamweaver is just a fancy tool to create HTML documents. It's what beginners use until they have learned to write web sites in text editors.

    2. Database access requires a scripting language like PHP.

1 and 2 are pretty much completely unrelated. The problem is, in order to be able to use PHP code, the document has to run through a webserver (like the a(pache) in xampp or wamp). Afaik you can't "run" a PHP document inside dreamweaver, much less live edit its code.

So while you can install xampp, set up your database using phpMyAdmin (a db management tool) and then write PHP code inside dreamweaver to access the database, the code will only work if you create the website somewhere inside your xampp installation's htdocs folder, then open the website by going to http://localhost/folder

In other words, Dreamweaver and editing PHP don't really go together (and there's no good alternative either, simply due to the nature of dynamic websites), and you will have to test your website in a browser anyway, which almost defeats the purpose of using DW in the first place.
