Why is the canopy on this aircraft open?

In this video:

At 2:08 and also 2:13, the canopy on this aircraft is open. Is there a reason? Never saw an aircraft with an open canopy on a carrier while taking off or landing.

That's not the canopy, it's the intake cover on the F35 for V/STOL operations.

It's not a canopy, it's a cover for the vertical lift fan for F-35B. It's open for vertical landing and short rolling take-off.

And by the way, that shot was taken not on a carrier, but aboard the USS Wasp (LHD-1,) an amphibious assault ship during the F-35B's ship trials in October 2011.

Ahhhhh! I just saw the pilot's head move when it was landing. Thanks Warbird! Wasn't paying close attention. Thanks!
