Why do even major record labels not promote some of their artists?

Update:

If you look at Capitol Records, they promote katy perry's songs and sam smith's songs like crazy. But how come they don't promote some of their other artists like Love Doll House? If you look at capitol records, they had two new artists/acts recently, Sam Smith and Love Doll House. How come they promoted sam smith's album and single "stay with me" but love doll house isn't getting that much promotion. I'm just scared becuase i dont want to end up like Love Doll House and have an offer atm.

It is how they and other greedy RIAA-member labels operate. Whatever they see as marketable hype, they sell. Everything else takes a backseat for the time being.

Do not get me wrong, I don't want to sour your ambitions and dreams. Joining an independent, non-RIAA label will be a more lucrative and passionate experience for you. RIAA labels don't care about their signed artists/singers, they only care about the money that is made from their music.
