How can I access files from this External Drive?

I'll put this simply. I had a laptop, it broke, hardrive is fully functional and now an external.

I have some files which were on the desktop which I really want very badly. How can I access the desktop, my pics, vids etc. folder?

Is there a default security setting disabling me from doing so?

if you connected it properly it will be fully accessible , it may be there is not enough power from a USB slot so you need a connector with two usb connectors

If you know how to explore the file system it's easy - When you plug it in, the disk drive is assigned a letter. We'll call it D. So your path is D:\Users\User_Name\

If it's plugged in, go look under My Computer.
