I don't know what method you are using to "learn" German, but these are basic concepts. you should understand the concepts of gender, case and number.

First, der, die and das are definite articles in the nominative case. Learn these when you learn the nouns. From number and case, there are additional articles. dem and den for singular masculine nouns; der for singular feminine nouns and die for plural nouns. I left out genitive because it is seldom used in modern German.

hat, hast, habe, or haben are forms of the verb "to have" in German. The variation is due to variation in number and person and familiarity of the one who has.

Get a good German grammar book. particularly If these terms are not familiar to you,

    http://www.amazon.com/Hammers-German-Grammar-Usage...

Earlier editions are much cheaper, but less useful.

    Good luck.

I never used duolingo, but perhaps it is conversation oriented.
This article has good coverage of German grammarhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_grammar

While not as detailed as Hammer, for instance, it will give you some background. And it's free..
