The Christian life is understood as an internal life. As Christ said, "the kingdom of God is within." Sometimes we forget the fact that our own humanity is a member of existence. Our hearts (the core of our being) contain the very secrets of existence. It is only when our hearts are pure that we see the Truth (God).

How do we purify our hearts? In the orthodox church, the great men and women of faith have provided a path. This path is watchfulness and prayer. By watchfulness I mean the simple observance of our thoughts, fears and habits. And by prayer, I do no merely mean asking God for things nor the recitation of empty words, but rather the very action of faith. Prayer to God is loving our neighbor as yourself, along side prayer of words and the reading of scripture, fasting, participating in the liturgical life of the church, etc. From an Orthodox Christian perspective, this is how you com to know the Truth or "Ultimate reality"(God).

Actually, the religious spend their whole lives avoiding reality.
