Could the First Lady of the United States have a job in the government?
Hypothetically, could the FLOTUS be Secretary of State or a senator or something like that?

They probably could if they wanted to but our First Ladies (and soon to be First Gentleman) are kept mighty busy with the duties of being the spouse of the President. I don't see how they could fulfill both roles concurrently.

The president's spouse can have a government job, but it CAN'T be one appointed by the pres.
