Wouldn't the bible be a great childrens book, if they took all the violence, blood and murder out of it?
A snake talked, a bush talked, a mule talked, a man had strength in his hair, a woman turned into salt, the earth is flat, insects have 4 legs, there was a 7-headed dragon and a man lived in a fish for 3 days. Sounds like kids would love it.

Yes it would, and you're right ... stuff like Luke 14:26 and Judges 19:20-29 would simply have to go.

Violence, blood and murder are in the Bible because violence, blood and murder happened. They're in the Harry Potter books too, which are fiction, but I don't hear anyone suggesting that they should sanitized.

Life itself contains materials that are suitable only for adults and materials that are suitable for children. I will not argue here about whether the bible is fact or fiction, but any story can either be told in an x-rated or a g-rated way. That's why there are bible classes for children, for youths, and for adults. Accordingly, children came to Jesus and they were told by the disciples to go away, but Jesus said "Let them come".

It certainly wouldn't be a good book for children, if it was left to you to teach it to them.

Kids do love the Bible. Hence why millions of them read it. Adults love it too. Which is why the Bible has been the best seller when it comes to literature for the last 2000 years.
Also when it comes to violence, the violence in the Bible is no different from say the violence that you see in a book series like Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones describes a lot of violent and bloody scenes but it doesn't mean the authors approve of violence.
