Well lets see, take Portugal for example, who decriminalised drugs 16 years ago.

By the late 1990s, Portugal had reached a crisis point. Facing unprecedented rates of addiction, prison overcrowding, and a rapidly growing HIV epidemic,

Decriminalization is not legalization; drug offenders with small quantities of drugs may still incur penalties, but the idea is to redirect enforcement resources and prevent flooding prisons with non-violent offenders. They issue small fines, a referral to a treatment program -- not jail time and a criminal record. they offer people help to quit their drug addiction.

Portugal has seen significant positive change in the realm of disease prevention, with nationwide HIV rates decreasing dramatically since decriminalization. In 2014, only 40 intravenous drug users tested positive for HIV, down from 1,482 in 2000.

Death by overdose has dropped in Portugal to 3 per million, around ten people a year. Take a look at the chart below to see where the USA comes in deaths from drug overdose.

Then of course drug use has fallen, even though all the sceptics said when Portugal took this course that it would become the drug capital of Europe, it did not happen.

It is no good calling it a "war on drugs" if so it is a war the US has failed to win. It was 46 years ago Nixon declared his "war on drugs" and drug use continues to rise.

How long does something have to fail to work, before you look for other ways to tackle a problem which continues to destroy so many lives?

Tougher gun laws isn't banning and liberals don't want to legalize all drugs. Plus, people should know how to protect themselves without resorting to guns...tsk tsk.

They don't want all drugs legalized. Typically, although there are exceptions to this, they want marijuana legalized but not heroin.

    No liberal wants either.

Wanting tough guns laws is not banning.

And removing marijuana from the class 1 drug list is more fair and just, not to mention less expensive, than criminalizing and imprisoning thousands of US citizens for minor usage.

The prison business is the whole problem with the marijuana laws in our country.

Cancer, heart disease and cars each kill more people than guns too, but I believe drug legalization is more of an issue with Libertarians.

Because Liberals are AS STUPID AND IGNORANT AND GOD-HONEST-RETARDED ABOUT GUNS AS CONSERVATIVES ARE ABOUT LABORER'S RIGHTS AND ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS.

The worst case scenario is a drugged up libtard with a firearm.

The most dangerous drugs are the ones that are already legal.

Big Pharma and the prison business have more $$$$ power than you would ever admit and THAT is why we have BAD legislation and BAD law situations in our country and I bet you have a connection, maybe your stinking parents are up and in with it all.

Your totally ignorant. Marijuana Is not a drug and should be legalized If the people wish. I am a gun owning Republican who actually agrees with legalization.
