Two identical ping pong balls are rolling toward each other. Ball one is shot to the east at a speed of 1.50 m/s and ball two is shot to the west at 4.70 m/s. They do not hit head on but have a glancing collision that deflects ball two by 90°. Ball two is now moving to the north at 1.06 m/s. What is the speed of ball one after the collision?

My answer was 3.37 m/s but not sure

Solve this by using conservation of momentum.

Initially total Ymomentum = 0

Therefore ball 1 has to have final Ymomentum opposite that of ball2.

Initial Xmomentum is not zero. Ball 2 has no final Xmomentum, so ball 1 must have it all.

From the Px and Py find Vx and Vy. Use V = SQR[Vx^2 + Vy^2]
