I don't like tattoos myself, no interest in getting one. I can respect people's choice to have tattoos, and plenty of awesome people also have tattoos, but I have to say that I'm not attracted to them. It has been enough to make me lose romantic interest in women in the past. I might really like someone, but if I ask myself whether I can be turned on by a woman with a giant green cobra painted on her midriff, the answer is basically no.
And as for their artistic appeal... well I am open to many forms of artistic expression, but I don't get anything particularly interesting from seeing art branded on skin in that way.
I suspect some people are really into it because they have a pressing need to state their individuality, perhaps overstate it, by marking themselves in a way that says "this is me, nobody else is like this". I prefer to do that with my words and my actions.
Justin Beiber? If there's anything he has too much of, it's attention. When I think of how many cool interesting musical artists there were in the 70s, and then in th 80s, and then in the 90s... people that moved you and made you think... the fact that anyone is still talking about Justin Beiber just makes me sad.
