Leave us alone. People stopped renting movies so they went out of business. EVERYWHERE. Weed literally just became legal. If you want to talk about dumb stuff, how about we talk about the fact that kinder eggs were banned, and are illegal to import into the US. Kinder eggs... The delicious chocolate with a toy inside. You poor sods are missing out on one of the best things ever because your dumb little vacuum cleaner children keep trying to eat everything. I'm of course assuming you're from the US due to the level of ignorance in your "question".

    Blockbuster isn't illegal, just bankrupt

The thing is, they aren't bankrupt because they rent movies, they're bankrupt because their executives made stupid decisions. Family Video is still thriving, because their executives weren't morons.

On August 31, 2011, Blockbuster Canada announced that no buyer could be found for its remaining stores that were acceptable to the court-appointed bankruptcy receiver, and that it would wind down operations and close all stores by December 31, 2011.

    Blockbuster LLC - Wikipedia

The final Blockbuster locations in Alaska are set to close, the stores' general manager announced on Thursday. For years, Alaska was the final frontier of the dwindling video-rental chain, thanks to the state's generally poor WiFi and long winters. Now, there is only one Blockbuster left in all of the United States.

Blockbuster still exists in a couple of places, but they're closing ...
