People tend to glamorise the rock star lifestyle, but the truth is that few musicians want to live it for years on end. Touring isn't just about having lots of wild sex, drinking and drugging and partying all the time. It also involves staying in hotel rooms night after night for weeks or months, travelling by bus or plane from one place to another, living out of a suitcase, going without the comforts of home like sleeping in your own bed, eating home-cooked meals and seeing your family and friends. It's stressful for the band because they need to spend a lot of time together in cramped quarters while always having to be slaves to the clock and the calendar. It's stressful for maintaining relationships because of the hectic nature of the schedule. And playing the same songs over and over again every night on a different stage in a different city gets old fast when you start to think about only being midway through a grueling tour. You can see why it's something that would wear on a person after a while.

For sure. Too much of anything is no good. A lot of people say the rockstar life is so much fun but it’s not what most people think. It truly is a hard working job.

  • Yes. You tend to read again and again that they love playing on stage but begin to hate all the time on the tour bus, in hotels - travelling the world but not getting to see anywhere properly.

Touring can become a grind, but it's part of the job. That's how they make their money, it's still better than having a real job.
