The confederate flag became a symbol of resistance to the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The civil rights movement attempts to outlaw racism that was still being practiced in the south, such as forcing blacks to sit at the rear of the bus, and also forcing blacks to go only to restaurants that serve them, not to any restaurant of their choice. They claim that the flag is a part of history. That is nonsense of course, The Germans don't treat the Nazi flag as a part of history for example.

You need a history lesson... The Confederate flag is NOT a racist flag.

You wouldn't know the Confederate flag if you saw one.

As for the Battle Flag of the Confederacy I have seen it flown and displayed as far north east as Vermont (I never made it to Maine) and I even saw one flying in Washington State.

I have known black bikers who had that emblem on their jackets.

    As for why-

    Freedom of expression!

Better fly the flag of the rebels then show the colors of the rainbow!

The United States government does not consider the confederates as traitors. The soldiers of the confederacy were officially recognized as US veterans more than a 150 years ago. Update your Yankee rhetoric, you idiot.

People fly the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern Pride and Southern Heritage. This is pretty common knowledge, but apparently it's ground breaking stuff to ignorant liberals.

Traitors of what? A state is legally allowed to succeed if they want to. There is no law saying that a state must stay within the Union/United States.

Lets also not forget. The North, Union states, declared war on the South, Confederate states.

You call them traitors for succeeding. Yet your kind loves to spout on about how California should succeed from the states, and prove how powerful their liberal/socialist ideology is. And say that California can survive on it's own easily becuase it's the 15th, or whatever, strongest economy in the world. Would that not make them traitors as well for succeeding from a country whos policies and leadership they don't agree with? Becuase by your logic, it would make them traitors.

When a President decides to slaughter hundreds of thousands of Americans to resolve a states rights issue , I believe defending one's self falls just a bit short of being a " traitor " .

The South wished to succeed ,,,,,,, and Lincoln killed them for it .

Source(s): Wonder how that would go over today ? That is resolving a states rights issue by slaughtering the residents of the states that disagreed ?
