Why do Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons—cling to the claim that they are Christian?
- 1 year agoFavorite Answer
When the Bible is not just misinterpreted, as in the case above, but intentionally reinterpreted to create new doctrine, we move into the realm of false religion. The main two groups that we can soundly place in that category—the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah’s Witnesses) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons)—cling to the claim that they are Christian.

As both David and Chi girl agree on, it makes the two non Christian cults sound more legit.

Why do Trinitarians like you cling on to the claim that they are Christian when you folks worship a trinity god rather than the God that Jesus told you to worship.

Jehovahs Witnesses are christians, they try harder than any of the religions to live by bible principles and Jesus commands, they follow Jesus command to preach and teach, other religions other than Mornons dont do that.
Matthew 28:19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”
those who trash others are not true christians
(Luke 6:27, 28) “But I say to you who are listening: Continue to love your enemies, to do good to those hating you, 28 to bless those cursing you, to pray for those who are insulting you.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not claim to be A Christian church but claims to be THE Church of Jesus Christ administered to the gentiles with authority from God to administer the teachings and life changing ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The church was organized and is maintained by revelation to living apostles. Members of the church study the bible, but the church is not a bible church and it has no paid clergy.
The church teaches that the plan of salvation includes:
1 Faith or trust in Jesus Christ and His atonement
2. Repentance or turning from worldliness to following Christ
3. Baptism - the symbol of our covenant to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ and follow Him
4. Receipt of the gift of the Holy Ghost by ordinance. The Holy Ghost is everything. He leads, teaches and purifies our motives and desires over time as we are faithful.
Spiritual gifts, priesthood authority, and sacrifice through repentance are still essential to Christianity and most members know with surety through personal revelation that God lives and that Jesus is the Christ.
The ongoing restoration of the gospel in these last days is the greatest miracle since the resurrection of Christ and ironically, few can see it. The gospel of Jesus Christ wipes away such faith destroying concepts as an eternal burning tortuous hell, favoritism by God and the injustice of a God who destroys those who have never heard of Him. It teaches why this fallen earth life with all it's injustices, sorrows choices and wickedness is essential to our eternal progression. The gospel of Jesus Christ is truly the good news for all people.

Well, let´s consider your question in detail. Many people have different reasons to consider themselves Christians. For the majority of Christendom, being Christian means that one considers Jesus to be God as part of the Trinity. But is that what to be a Christian really mean?
Basically, being a Christian means following the true teachings of Christ. That has nothing to do with considering Christ as God when the very Jesus didn´t refer to himself as Almighty God. Rather, he explained to his listeners several times that only his Father was Almighty God. Take, for example, John 17:3, when he said: "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." (NW Study Edition) Truly, Jesus identified his Father as the only true God. In fact, Christians are in union with the only true God by means of His Son, Jesus. - 1 John 5:20.
In a nutshell, what identifies a Christian? Consider what the link says:

Being a Christian means that you accept and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ that are written down in God’s word the Bible. Which many today do not know what they are because they have not taken out the time to study the Bible personally to learn what is required to be a true follower of Jesus Christ. www.jw.org click on “About Us” there you will learn why they say they are Christians .

I love it when Christians trash each other. It proves that the religion is entirely about ego.
Chi girl - so the Protestants who say that Catholics or Orthodox are not Christians understand the issue well?
Ah, so understand means agree with you.
