Do you believe the trade war is beneficial to The U.S.? Why?

From what I can tell, Farmers need bailouts to stay afloat; allies like Canada and Euro are increasing their trade deficit with us; The U.S.' image is significantly damaged; and China can't increase their spending to the degree Trump wants.

The whole idea that you can force a Country to buy more since your Country wants to buy their product is ridiculously artificial: The economy doesn't work by forcing people to buy products. What if I found it unfair that HP sells too many laptops, therefore everyone needs to buy more Dell laptops?

What do you think? Will this whole Trade War backfire in Trump's face? Do you think the damage to the U.S.' image is worth it in the end? Do people think that short-term gains matter more than long-term progress?

Americans have to pay more to import products now, which Trump seems to think is a good thing and helping pay for the Trade War.

Nope. The trade war has been going on a year, and it has had ZERO impact on Chinese manufacturing. Instead, US importers have simply passed the higher prices on to US consumers. Meanhile, Chinese consumers have started to shun US agricultural products, thus hurting US famers.

The trade war has amounted to a national sales tax plus an increased need for welfare for farmers. NOT GOOD!

Short term, no. Long term it will be.

We can't buy a half trillion dollars more than we sell every year.

No, farmers are being bailed out, consumers and businesses are paying higher prices and people are losing jobs. First clue that trade wars weren't going to be beneficial to the USA, was when Trump proclaimed, "Trade wars are good and easy to win."

No. I think to win markets, one must out-trade the competition.
