im on birth control and my period is 4 days late, is this possible or is it an inevitable sign that im pregnant?

You don't always get a bleed on the exact same day when on birth control.
(2-4 days into the placebo pills is the most common range, but it can be earlier or later, and isn't always the same every cycle.)
If you took your pills as directed, pregnancy would be VERY unlikely -- but not impossible.
If you missed pills, pregnancy is still not 'inevitable' -- but a bit more possible.
Whether to test or not is up to you. If you took your pills correctly, I probably wouldn't worry about it. If you dont' get a bleed by the time it's time to start a new pack, you might want to test just to be sure.

Did you take it correctly? If so you probably aren't pregnant. If you didn't you may be.

It's certainly possible you aren't pregnant, but since it sounds like pregnancy is a possibility you should take a home pregnancy test to be sure.
