Blood in the stool sometimes. Other times, it's about what a person is eating

Iron is greenish, Pepto-bismol is black. Digested blood is foul smelling, black and real sticky. The blood in the gut acts as a laxative, so frequent loose stools are common with significant bleeding.

Blood in the stool if several days. Or as others say you ate food with black food color, or to much iron.

One time - means nothing - could have been caused by something you ate.

Repeated black stools over several days could indicate an issue and you should make a doctor's appointment so they can determine what the real issue might be.

Either bleeding in the digestive tract, or else you are taking Iron supplements.

Black stools don’t really mean anything. I suppose the closest they come to meaning anything is their association with theater, but even then the color isn’t specifically black.
