Is this really that big of a deal?

My 5 years old son called his mother ''b*tch'' and she's making all that fuss, using her detective skills to know where did he learn it from. It's not that big of a deal, is it? He doesn't even know what the word means.

She doesn't need to know where he heard it, but she does need to let him know (and you should be making it clear to him too) that it's not a nice word and he shouldn't use it about people.

He doesn't need to know any more than that, at his age.

Yes it is, and you need to stop watching the porn with the kid in the room!

Just because a five year-old doesn't understand the meaning of the word doesn't mean it's okay for him to go around saying it. If he ever calls a teacher that you're going to have some real problems. So it's okay to seek out the source of his "bad learning"...and it's probably YouTube or something like that. But the bigger issue will be teaching him that bad words exist and he's not allowed to use them. You can't shield from the lexicon of profanity forever, but you can teach him what's acceptable and what's not.

Yes it is a big deal, because she doesn't want her child to get used to calling her a b*tch. Because eventually he WILL know what it means, and long before that he'll understand that it's derogatory, even if he doesn't know what it means, and he will use it properly. Then suddenly it isn't just a giggle-it-off moment of a toddler, but your own child cursing you like a child because you just laughed it off instead of correct it from the start.

It is a big deal. If he calls her that now and she lets him get away with it just think of the future

It IS a big deal. Disrespect toward parents should NEVER be tolerated.

Children not taught respect will grow up to be teens and adults that abuse or mistreat parents,or other family members, and will break the laws of the land.
