Should I buy this car or should I wait ?

Update:

Hey y’all . I’m interested in this 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited w/ Ultimate package for 12,999 . The dealership offering me 6.9% interest for 72 months for a payment of 269 with 1,000 down. My Honda has 124k miles so I feel like it won’t be worth much but I’ll keep it for road trips something like that . Long story short . Should I go with the deal and mind you they giving me 5,000 for my civic as a trade in or wait and pay off my 6,500 loan with the civic

Buy it yesterday.  I am not worried if you get yourself into financial difficulty.

Since they would only give you 5k for your current vehicle, and you owe 6500 on it they would have to add another 1500 to your loan. You should never finance a car for 6 yrs if you don't have to. It costs you a lot in interest. The Honda should last you several more years if you maintain it. In the meantime, once your current car is paid off, start saving the money you would spend on a car payment to increase the amount of the down payment you will be able to put down and shorten the term of the loan on your next vehicle.

In our family, we have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe and a 2004 Nissan Titan -- both with about 150,000 miles on them and running strong. I would keep driving your Honda Civic until you pay it off. If you maintain it well, it will last at least two more years.
