Social Security isn't welfare; it isn't based upon financial need. SS could give a rat's you-know-what how many houses, vehicles, bank accounts your mother has.

SSI (supplemental security income) IS a federal welfare program. Then income/resources/living arrangements matter. A person on SSI is allowed one motor vehicle and the house they live in.

Here's an idea - you and your mother actually read notices received from social security. Amazing how informative they are. They actually tell people what they need to report and - wow - how to report it.

Source(s): I was a SS claims rep for 32 yrs.

Yes she can. SSDI is not asset dependent.

mom can be a billionaire and have a thousand cars and still collect SSDI

SSI is different, but doesn't count 1 car
