Ben bowled 148 and 217 in his first two games. What must he bowl in his third game to have an average of at least 170?

I hope the bowler knows it well.

Maybe croquet is more Ben's game.

    Ben needs at least 145.

    170-148 = 22

    170-247= -47

    22 + -47 = -25

    170 + -25 = 145

There's no way to tell his average without first knowing how many wickets he has taken. Also averaging 270 in a single match is stupidly high, there is no way that would ever happen.

People ask questions without picking a category and Yahoo decides where to put it. For some reason, 'bowling' the sport was ignored and 'bowling, just one aspect of cricket' was picked up on. The asker could have edited the category but didn't.

If Ben is averaging 170 with his bowling he needs to spend less time doing maths and more time at the nets.

  • 145. Basic math.

    Solve the following:

    (148 + 217 + x) / 3 ≥ 170

    148 + 217 + x ≥ 3*170

    365 + x ≥ 510

    x ≥ 145
