Should students clean their own classroom?

Most Asian countries and some Latino countries have student perform classroom/school cleaning. Would USA schools benefit in terms of school discipline if students started cleaning classroom from grade 7+?

Students should keep their own space tidy, whether that is a desk, a lab table, or a work cubicle. They should not be responsible for sweeping or mopping floors, or washing or dusting furnishings. No classroom time should be spent on such non-educational activities. Besides, the maintenance staff is paid to do this, and they would have much less to do; one can only sit in the boiler room for so long eating doughnuts!

2nd grade students in my niece’s classroom must put all their things away, pick up trash, push in chairs. Make sure the classroom is picked up before leaving.

No 7th graders + should not be cleaning the room. Not with using chemicals and water to get things sanitized. Most middle school and Hs students are on several rooms each day. It just wouldn’t work.

I think so, it teaches them responsibility and might help them develop a sense of pride in both community and self accomplishment.

No, because normally they have people to do that, so why put someone out of a job.
