Should the Supreme Court be able to overturn popular opinion? How often and why should the Supreme Court listen to the will of the people?

The Supreme Court only exists because the average citizen is not a Constitutional expert. The Court Justices are appointed for life precisely because that was supposed to keep them above politics and populism. Ergo, SCOTUS cannot consider public opinion when deliberating the Constitutional efficacy of a given case before it.

The Supreme Court should rule only based on the LIMITED authority granted in the Constitution.

SCOTUS should never listen to popular opinion. SCOTUS is supposed to rule based solely on the Constitution and the law.
Judges that rule based on anything else are what we Cons call "Activist Judges" and it s totally improper.
