Now that even someone like Steven Spielberg is re-making 'West Side Story' does that mean we have run out of NEW ideas and NEW stories?

It was disheartening to hear of this. It needs no remake. Watch the first one and you get the whole story. The British troll idiots on here saying that it is a remake of Romeo and Juliet need to go back to trolling Wikipedia and stop trolling and lying across the Internet and watch the first movie, or better yet get off the Internet and let the adults all have our way for once.

No, it just means he wants to ride the coattails of a great show in hopes of making more money. He could be right...

The suits want something safe that will make them money. Last night watching BBC had interview with "Anna" of Frozen 2. She said "if you have a recipe for cake and bake great one on Monday, then if use same recipe and bake one on Tuesday, it should also be great" (more or less). Hollywood is going for recipes and formulas... puts out product like McDonalds: no challenge, no discomfort, no exploration... and little taste. This might have been okay once, but now that there are fewer independent theaters, there is no room for "cinema".

Not at all. I think of it as a looking at something with fresh, new eyes.
The fact is there are no new ideas. Even West Side Story is basically a remake of Romeo and Juliet. What matters is not the idea - it’s the execution. One interesting thing about humans is that two people can look at the same thing but see it completely differently. Spielberg will have a different vision of the story then Robert Wise or Jerome Robbins. And the audience of today will be very different then the audience of 1961. And yet there is still some connection and some link.
I find that interesting.

Sometimes it sure seems that way. Half of the current crop of Broadway shows are adaptations of bland Disney movies. Pfui!
