Why don't most shopping centres have free car parking?

    Not sure where you live but here in Pittsburgh USA, parking in shopping centers is free

    You must live some place with a high population and few parking spots

    Most do here. There's only one local one that doesn't.

    Because they want their customers to spend money in the store, not in parking their cars.

    Never in my life paid to park so I could shop.

    I have no idea where you live, but I have literally never encountered a situation where I'd have to pay to park so I could shop.
