    YES Seattle does get thunderstorms.

They are not very often and usually not much to be concerned about.

The Space Needle is frequently hit by lightning.

YES Seattle just like anywhere else can have big storms too.

Seattle has thunderstorms, but they are very rare. In the Pacific Northwest cool, relatively dry air off the Pacific normally prevents the types of temperature gradients and moisture levels necessary to brew up towering clouds, convection and lightning.  Normally, our cloud cover is low, and you need a storm to grow to 30,000 or 40,000 feet to produce lightning. We just don’t get that depth of storms.

I've lived here three decades and can only remember less than a dozen of them. The exception was September 7, 2019.  The National Weather Service counted more than 2,200 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., a rate of 440 an hour.  My son and I went out on the back deck and heard thunder than went on for several seconds.  My husband, who is from Nebraska, was not in the least impressed.  He said at dusk every evening in the summer they would have hours of thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms are rare in the Pacific Northwest, but we might see a few Friday night and into Saturday morning thanks to a shift in weather patterns. ... Thunderstorms could develop late in the afternoon Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Yes, but not usually severe ones.   Sometimes in summer and fall we get some rumbles and/or a few claps.  We usually don't see much lightening.

We did have a record-breaker in September...a storm that lasted a few hours and the National Weather Service tracked over 2000 cloud to ground lightening strikes.    Somehow I managed to sleep through it.   Dang...

Seattle averages 5-10 days of thunder/lightening a year which is one of the lowest in the country.

Compared to the Midwest and East Coast, the West Coast in general really doesn’t get many thunderstorms.  With that being said, when it does thunder it can be severe just like anywhere else in the US.  Yes, Seattle does have thunderstorms on occasion and though they’re rare they can be very intense when they happen especially when they bring wind... considering the city is literally built in a forest.
