Is it bad to drive around with a dead spark plug?
The car does run, its just kind of rough. I only drive around town anyways.

Spark plug maybe $10, the potential damage it can cause can cost anything from $200 to $2000, driving with a dead spark plug gives poor gas mileage, and excessive smoke/fumes from exhaust. best have it changed asap

yes, not healthy for the car....fix it ASAP....and replace ALL the plugs.......

Yes. A new spark plug is a few dollars. A new catalytic converter is LOTS of dollars.

Yes. I knew a guy who had a dead plug, or, so he thought. New plug still didn't fire. It was a coil pack and wire. In middle of Mojave and 30 miles from a station; the plug Exploded, made dent in his hood. Had to get the old end out with an EZ out to even fix it after he realized the CP/wire were the problem.
ID think you Want a dent in hood and a car that sounds like a machine gun? Much less the other problems; lack of power, hard starting, poor MPG, possible cooked cat and fouled O2 sensor(if any), excess blowby washing off cyl oil and causing ring/bearing wear? This stop start in town and not fully warmed up is Worse with a dead cylinder than hiway use. Penny wise But Dollar-Dumb..

It is bad and you will end up killing the catalytic converter. Replace the spark plugs now for a few bux or later when the cat costs you a thousand bux to replace.

Yes, because it is kind of rough. You lost horsepower too and fuel economy. You can drive a 4 cylinder on 2 plugs. It will do 60MPH eventually...it is a gutless wonder. So, you may be that low already. It won't run on 1...so you are risking it being stuck on a bridge when the car dies. The towing cost is HIGH. Higher than the cost of spark plugs. Even the cheap ones will do. Better than nothing.

Yeah. Do you want to develop an engine knock?Source(s): nothing

All the un-burnt gasoline from the cylinder with the bad spark plug washes down the cylinder wall and ends up in the oil pan diluting the oil. Then the crankshaft bearings and connecting rod bearings seize up and destroy the motor. That's kind of stupid to ruin a $4000 motor because you're too cheap or lazy to replace a set of spark plugs that probably cost less then $50!Source(s): Mitsubishi Master Tech

Yeah, and it'll cost you more in fuel.
