Place your hand on the wall cube. If you can hold your hand on it for more than 5 seconds it's not hot, its warm and ok. If you can't It's hot, replace it.

they will get warm in use but not hot.

It would help with more details... what is your definition of "hot" ? Uncomfortable to touch, too hot, indicating a problem.... either overloaded or broken.

Transformer have iron core and eddy currents cause the core to heat.

Load on the secondary contributes to the heat.

They should never get hot enough to self destruct or start a fire.

If you can force yourself to hold your hand on the transformer indefinitely, it is not too hot. Causing injury like blistering is too hot.

    NO, AND NEVER !!

IF IT HAPPENS, MEANS THE PLUG JOINTS TO WIRE ARE LOOSING, OR THE WIRE NEAR THE PLUG SECTION CLOSES TO OPEN.

CUT AWAY THE SECTION OF WIRE AND TIGHT JOIN BACK INTO PLUG IS THE WAY TO FIX THIS TROUBLE.

Yes it's normal for them to get hot, but not hot enough to where you can't touch them.
