What are the differences between the  Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Wi-Fi alliance.?

additionally, I am trying to figure out things in relation to the 802.11 standard. So IEEE members created the original standard for wi-fi networks and then the wiifi alliance took over and developed the wpa standards?

WiFi alliance began the need for wireless connectivity, IEEE defined the standards, including WPA security.

The alliance didn't take anything over just said hey,,we need some security vehicle with this and suggested the existing WPA.

Still had to comply wit IEEE when all said and done.
