Why do so many republicans vote against their best interests?

Bernie Sanders is offering $15 dollar minimum wage (if you are above this you will probably get a pay rise as everyone will be shifted up a notch on the pay scale). Free college education, scrapping of student debt and free medical coverage. If a billionaire offered you the same you would rip their hand off but because it will be from the government they don't want it and consider it socialist (even though other countries like norway and sweeden offer it). Why?

Can't speak for Republicans but this independent understands basic math and knows most of this is impossible. I've lived in a country with nationalized healthcare and the only reason it worked there for most people was because the ultra wealthy still had the option of paying private doctors (so more the Buttigieg plan than the Sanders/Warren plan). More to the point that country had a mere fraction of the population of the US, had a far healthier lifestyle than we do AND in that place medical school cost a mere drop in the bucket to what it does here so they actually had enough doctors to go around.

"Free" college: Nothing is free, someone always pays and the nations that provide taxpayer funded postsecondary education ALL select only the highest testing students for that honor. This US idea that everyone deserves a shot at university doesn't exist in the rest of the developed world. Americans would go crazy if we had a system like Germany or Japan wherein one test taken as an early teen decides the rest of your life. Fail to fall into the upper 10% on that test and university simply isn't an option for you, period. With the racial conflict that already goes into college acceptance in the US you can already see where this would go. A system that cuts out all but the top contenders would immediately be attacked as based on our K-12 feeder schools a fair assessment of talents would by definition favor suburban white and Asian kids.

Not to mention that some jobs just aren't worth $15 a hour when automation is so cheap. So this leads more into Andrew Yang territory where being realistic about technology is wise. Bernie is just too old to understand what's really possible in the age of automation.

By all means eliminate some tax loopholes and tax passive income at the same rate as active income. But to promise an entire generation they'll never have to spend a dime from the cradle to the grave is just nonsense. Somebody at some point is going to have to work to pay all those taxes and there just aren't that many billionaires to go after. Nevermind that the top 1% would happily all move to Singapore if their taxes did rise to the levels Sanders and Warren are suggesting.

A tax "loophole" is simply a deduction someone gets that someone else doesn't get.  Eliminate ALL of the deductions, exemptions and exceptions and apply a FLAT tax rate to everyone with income from work or communist welfare state programs.

A lot of Republicans believe Republican propaganda like that we Democrats kill babies after they are born and crap like that which is SO far from the truth. Liberals LOVE babies and we are in favour of Abortion because a woman is a person too, and the government should not dictate that a woman be forced to carry an undeveloped fetus to term. That is a far cry from killing babies already born and out. We are in favour of you getting value for your tax dollars like medical care and college because we feel that you have already paid once, so why make you pay twice and hand over your earnings to other countries like Pakistan. If you have paid taxes, paid into the system, then you deserve something for what you have paid for, which is your college tuition and your medical care. A lot of what Republicans listen to is just lies and propaganda.

Cite either "education" or "health care" in the Constitution.  don't show your ignorance by babbling "general welfare clause", either, unless you've read Federalist Paper 41 and can cite which of the enumerated powers in Article 1, Section 8 you believe applies.  BETCHA CAN'T!!

NOTHING on your list can be "free" unless you can tell us who will provide their services without being paid for them. That's called "slavery" or "indentured servitude", both of which are prohibited by law. Increasing the unconstitutionally mandated minimum wage would only make everything more expensive thereby eliminating any benefit from the increased wage. Why should someone with no skills to offer be paid such a high wage? Let them learn a trade so they are at least worth something.

Republicans fail to realize that those so called free things would be paid for by higher taxes on the rich, who could afford it.   As for minimum wages, the lower paid employee who were raised up to the higher minimum would have more to spend, thus stimulating the economy.

Poor and middle class Republicans identify with wealthy people while rich Republicans only care about themselves

The "rich" don't owe you a free ride, you moocher.

Why? Because we would end up paying for all of the "free" stuff that you free loaders want.

    That stuff isn't free bro.

Everyone getting shifted up a notch would be the same as it is now. If minimum wage were doubled and everyone’s salary were doubled, then products will be doubled, which leaves us to where we started.

Did you see amazon increase their prices when their minimum wage was put up to $15 an hour? You still have competition.

Do you not understand that someone must pay for all those freebies?????? I don't want to pay for college for everyone, or a ridiculous minimum wage for unskilled, entry-level workers.

I will take care of my kids' college and I am way beyond minimum wage. It will only impact me by increasing the cost of everything I buy and increasing my taxes. No thank you.

Barry, cite the Article or Amendment and Section of the Constitution that allows the federal government to interfere in health care.  BETCHA CAN'T!!  No, the "general welfare clause" does NOT.  Read Federalist Paper 41.
