Whatever you do to one side you must do it to the other.
So, starting with ....
3 - 5n = - 22
Subtract 3 from both sides
3 - 3 - 5n = - 22 - 3
- 5n = - 25
Divide both sides by 5
- 5n/5 = - 25/5
- n = - 5
and because both sides are negative you can make them both positive.
n = 5

This is basic algebra.
3 - 5n = -22
-5n = -22 - 3
-5n = -25 (you can cut out the negative sign as it is present on both sides)
5n = 25
n = 25/5
n = 5

The essential property is that whatever you do to one side
of an equation you must do to the other.
Bring like terms to each side of the equation.
Subtracting 3 from each side makes 5n equal to minus 25.
To find n, divide both sides by minus 5
and you will see that n is equal to five.

Using the associative property of addition we take 3 out from -22 to get
3 + (-25)
Next using the associative property of multiplication we take the factor of 5 from -25
3 + (-5 * 5)
Then we simply
3 - (5 * 5)
3 - 5(5)
So now the formula looks like the LHS of the equation and therefore: n = 5

Take away 3 from both sides, -5n=-25
Isolate n by dividing both sides by -5, n = -25/-5
n = 5
Add to original equation for proof, 3 - (5 x 5) = -22

Draw a picture of a duck, the teacher will be so distracted she'll try to give it a cracker, so you'll either get an a or a c.
