It can turn to sepsis in as little as a day or two or persist for months or years without turning into sepsis. You can predict the risks by monitoring how fast it spreads. If a new cellulitis infection doubles in size overnight, that's a situation that has a very high risk of becoming septic. If a cellulitis infection looks more or less the same after a week has passed, its not likely to turn into sepsis.
