if you punctured a hole into your lungs, could you breathe through that hole?

    What you are referring to is called a "sucking chest wound". It causes your lung or lungs to collapse and then you die.

    So the simple answer to your question is "no".

    If you punctured a hole in a balloon, could you fill it with air? Same thing, basically.

    You don't breathe through your lungs, you use your lungs like bellows to breathe through your nose or mouth.  There's no oxygen inside your body that you can breathe.

    I'm no professional, but I don't believe so. Your lung would collapse and you would very much struggle to breathe (from what I've seen in movies, anyway). Your lungs are protected by bones, blood and muscle and all that, so I don't think there's much chance of any air getting through.
