No, apparently the Swedes tried to drop the case in 2013 but the British government insisted they pursue it at the insistence of the Americans who wanted to try him for something someone else already admitted to doing and was jailed for and subsequently pardoned.

Personally I think the Tories should be forced to pay for it themselves out of their own pockets as this debacle has in no way benefited the British people and if they wont we should deduct it from their wages.

Yes, when you put it that way, US motives seem questionable.

Now the USA want extradition. If a UK judge refuses extradition, should the UK bill the USA too?

Considering that he was in the Embassy Of Ecuador why not bill them instead . Mind you he did go in there of his own free will nobody forced him to go in.

After Assange's asylum was revoked, the Ambassador of Ecuador to the UK invited the Metropolitan Police into the embassy on 11 April 2019. Following this invitation, Assange was arrested and taken to a central London police station. Assange was carrying Gore Vidal's History of the National Security State during his arrest The news of the arrest went viral on Twitter and Facebook within minutes of its happening and several media outlets reported it as breaking news. President Moreno is quoted to have referred to Assange as a "spoiled brat" in the wake of the arrest.

So billing anyone doesn't make any sense

America wants Assange on the charge of espionage for exposing the NSA and american government spying on its citizens

    Can you believe that shiiit

Yes. It was obviously a trumped up charge, utilising Sweden’s very flexible rape laws in order to punish Assange for Wikileaks.
