Couch can be a NOUN .. it means Sofa or Settee

but it can also be a VERB meaning either:

To express something in a certain way ..... His instructions were couched in general terms

or .. To lay down ..... The dogs were couched together in the same bed.

Couch can be both a noun and a verb. A sofa is a couch. But to sit on a sofa is to be couched.

It is both a noun and a verb. Ever heard of a dictionary? You can also google a word with definition behind it.
