Waking up in the morning and finding (in my pillow case) two oranges, two apples, two pears, a selection box, two shillings, and a toy probably one that dad made.
That's no bullshitting Jim that's how it was in the late 40's early 50's in dear old Blighty.

My dad would have to run to the store every year to get film for his camera and then would miss Santa. I was always so disappointed that he wasn't there

As a small child-teen- Helping my mom make Christmas cookies, my sister and I fighting over who got to hang the snowflake ornament, listening to Anne Murray, The Beach Boys, and The Carpenter's Christmas albums, going to grandma's and eating like a glutton, and sleeping by the fire only to wake up to mounds of presents under the tree and never hearing a peep.
21-32- My aunt (R.I.P.) singing HORRIBLY at the top of her lungs while her and I got drunk off cheap fizzy wine, my mom's dogs in antlers running around the house, sneaking food before it was ready to go out and being chastised by my mom for it, singing Christmas carols with everyone...good times.

When I was about five, I remember being in a dimly lit livingroom, looking at the fireplace, where five red stockings were hung up. My mom made the stockings. My dad always put a silver dollar in the toe of each stocking. There was always an orange in there, and a candy cane.
My oldest sister said to me, "You know there isn't any Santa Claus, don't you?" I can't remember what I answered, but whatever it was, I wasn't worried about there being no fat guy in a red suit.
Me and the little girl next door both got the same doll. Guess our mothers must have shopped together, LOL.
