To solve the Irish issue & Brexit should the UK annexe the Republic of Ireland and solve the problem without to much trouble?

    Annexing the Republic of Ireland would be no problem. They have nothing for an air force and very little for a navy. For an army they have about 9,000 and that includes reserves. The problem is not annexing a country, the problem is controlling the population if they don't want you there. Just look at the Americans in Vietnam.

    Not particularly smart. In 1921 it was taking 50,000 well-equipped troops and thousands of paramilitaries with a vested interest to keep control in Ireland. They do not want to be part of the UK again anyway, so a Putin-style little green men take-over wouldn't work either.  How big is the British Army now??

    To solve Brexit, scrap Article 50 and stay with the miles-better deal we already have.

      Land-Shark. Read my answer. It would be no problem for Britain to invade, but controlling the population is a different story. Even the USA couldn't control Ireland if the Irish didn't want them there.
