In the UK, why do people get more prison time for stealing money than they do for stabbings and rape?

Detectorists jailed for stealing £12m Viking hoard of gold and silver.

They get 10 years, who did they hurt?

“You cheated the farmer, his mother, the landowner, said the Judge."

Yes they cheated the Landowner but, being the Landowner doesn't necessarily make you the legal owner of what's found on your land.

Had the Detectorists been able to prove that the "Viking hoard of gold" was traceable to their Viking ancestors, then it would have been another matter.

So who does this "Viking hoard of gold" belong to? Because it doesn't belong to the Detectorist or the farmer, his mother, the landowner or the state"

It belong to the Vikings and the Vikings still live in Scandinavia,so we should returns it to the rightful owners, otherwise we are in the possession of stolen goods. If we did so then the Detectorist would be awarded with a find bounty called Danefæ,Would have made them rich.

I think that we can conclude the the Judge was as thick as schit.

Judges issued sentence according to the laws. Nevertheless, stealing, murder and adultery should be the same penalty according to the Ten Commandments.

The 10 Commandments don’t prescribe any sentence for breaking them.

There is no continuity with sentencing because each case is decided individually. Other things affect the decision and not just the crime itself.

It's much easier to identify and catch people stealing Viking hoards than hooded thugs stabbing people and running off into the darkness.

You ask a good question. The sentencing needs an overhaul. There are too many non dangerous people in prison and some lenient sentences for murder are wrong.

There are more crimes judges deal with than 'stabbings' and 'rape' daily, dim sam. If you have a look at the Liverpool Echo, a funny 'Police probing the horrific slashing of a wedding guest are looking to speak to a 'man with a ginger beard' story will pop up, along with a comical 'John Tomlinson fell for fake profiles set up by an undercover police officer, telling them "I like 13-year-olds" and referring to his "grey undies" as he indulged in sordid online encounters' will get the less intelligent on here more upset

    Never mind greedy coin hoarders!
